☕ Coffee Grind Size Cheat Sheet

Why it matters: Grind size = how fast water extracts flavor. Too coarse → sour/weak. Too fine → bitter/over-extracted.

Brew Method Grind Size Texture Quick Tip
Cold Brew Extra Coarse Peppercorn-like chunks 12–24h steep; prevents harshness
French Press Coarse Sea salt 4-5 min steep; keeps cup clean
Chemex / Clever Medium-Coarse Coarse sand Balanced, sweet, clean
V60 / Drip Medium Table sugar Great all-rounder; tweak finer/coarser to taste
AeroPress Medium-Fine Fine sand Go finer for short brew, coarser for longer
Moka Pot Medium-Fine Between drip & espresso Prevents clogging but keeps body
Espresso Fine Powdered sugar Tight, even tamp; 25–30 sec shot
Turkish Coffee Extra Fine Flour Brew until foamy; no filter

Pro Tips:

  • Taste & Adjust: Sour → finer. Bitter → coarser.

  • Use Fresh Beans: Clockwork Roasters’ fresh roasts extract better — start slightly coarser.

  • Invest in a Burr Grinder: Consistency = better flavor.
